Microsoft
«Windows Media Player»
The Windows Media Player by Microsoft automatically converts any tones into images when playing an audio file without video. For demonstration purposes, Max Butting’s incidental music for Walter Ruttmann’s «Lichtspiel Opus 1» from 1921 was fed into the player. The result is a visual analog for music in real time, which Ruttmann would have slaved over for months. Regarding the manmade and mechanical synaesthetics, everyone is invited to compare for themselves.
