«Airport-Tunnel»
Gates A and B in Terminal 1 of Frankfurt airport are connected by a 270 m long tube with 2 travelators. Passengers spend between 3 and 6 minutes in this intermediate zone, according to how fast they walk. The 'Airport-Tunnel' installation makes the monotony and disorientation of this situation into a visual, acoustic and at one stage olfactory experience, which is activated by breaking a beam of light at the entrance to the tunnel. As well as computer-controlled indirect coloured light from 2000 dimmable neon tubes, MIDI sounds are mixed into the existing soundtrack on each occasion. These variables in the program ensure that no one day is the same as another, like a passage through the 4 seasons.
