«625»

‘625' operates with changing blurs of TV screen rasters, filmed off the TV set and negatively reproduced, and made up of 625 lines. The sound is derived from the light levels of the individual picture elements via a photoresistor.
The filmmakers Birgit and Wilhelm Hein were among the organizers of the ‘XScreen Festival’ in Cologne in 1968. It was the first presentation forum for expanded cinema and experimental film, with works by artists including Peter Weibel and Valie Export, who later contributed to the’ documenta 5’, 1972, and ‘documenta 6’, 1977. Birgit Hein co-curated with Wulf Herzogenrath the 'Film als Film' exhibition in the Kölnischer Kunstverein, Cologne, in 1977.
