b 1965; art historian and lecturer at the Department of Art History, Humboldt University in Berlin since 1998; research project on «art history and media theory of virtual art» funded by the German Research Society (DFG); since 2000 working on the first international data base resource for virtual art funded by the German Ministry of Research and Education (BMBF); since 2002 head of the German Science Foundation project on «Immersive Art;» 2002–2003 visiting professor at the Kunstuniversity Linz und member of the project »Images of Knowledge«; member of the Young Academy of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences (BBAW); his research focuses the history of illusion and immersion in media and art, the history of the idea and culture of telepresence and telecommunication, genetic art, and artificial intelligence; most recent publication: «Virtual Art: From Illusion to Immersion,» Cambridge, MA, 2003; lives in Berlin.
