* 1926 in Nuremberg (D); studied mathematics, physics and philosophy in Erlangen and Stuttgart (D). He has been producing computer graphics, sculptures and films since 1964. In 1969, he received his Ph.D. under Max Bense on ‹Generative Computer Graphics.› Together with Friedrich Nake and A. Michael Noll he organised the first seminal exhibition on computer graphics in 1965, calling it «computer art.» He took part in the Biennale film/art festival in Venice in 1969 and 1970, ‹Prinzip Zufall› (The principle of chance) in Ludwigshafen in 1992, and in 1995 he published «Formel, Farbe, Form. Computerästhetik für Medien und Design»; lives in Erlangen.
