Luis Buñuel
b 1900 in Calanda (E); studies in Agriculture, Philosophy and Literature; around 1923 studies at the Film Academy in Paris and film critic at Cahiers d’Art; arouses a scandal with his first two Surrealist films «Un chien andalou» (1928) und «L’age d’or» (1930); in the 1930s he worked as executive producer in France and Spain before emigrating to the USA after Franco's victory in the Spanish Civil War; since 1947 many also commercially successful films in Mexico and Europe.
